1. The End of an Astrological Era

“The series of fated events that have culminated in massive change on a global scale throughout the last few years is about to peak. The astrology of 2023 can’t be mentioned without touching on what has been happening in the cosmos since 2020. It has resulted in very obvious shifts to how we relate in our cultural norms. What once felt predictable and steadfast has morphed into something more ambiguous.

“In 2023, we’re nearing the end of a 2,000-ish year cycle in which the Earth has been in an Age of Pisces. The exact dates (or even years) that this shift actually occurs are debatable. This is due, in part, to the fact that the cycle takes about 26,000 years to complete.

“We live in unprecedented times: celebrities can go to space just for fun; almost everywhere in the world, we can hold devices in our hands that connect us to literally everything; history repeats itself despite the unfettered access we have to information; and in modern times, a global pandemic brought the world to a screeching halt. All of this can be drawn back to the end of this major astrological cycle in the sign of Pisces, which some astrologers have called the sign of suffering. So, there’s a reason these past few years have been so challenging!

2. The Age of Aquarius

“One of the biggest things we’ll be facing in 2023 is this shift into the Age of Aquarius. Where Pisces asks us to confront fears and secrets, Aquarius requires change. What this shift boils down to is a faceoff between progress and revolution and traditions and institutions. In other words, we are already being forced to confront and transform the standing systems related to power dynamics. The power struggle is evident in the ways sticky traditions try to cling to old ways and resist individual’s independence.

“This impacts things like global health, wars, access to healthcare and basic needs, our cultural norms, how we relate and interact to each other on a societal level, and how political power influences us. Whether you’re aware of it or not, this type of change is scientific. The planets are rotating and that’s undeniable. So from an astrological perspective, every person on the planet is affected, albeit in different ways according to their own unique astrology.

“Fully stepping into the Age of Aquarius will disrupt our traditional power structures and ~the rules~ of society. You can already see evidence that our collective focus has started to shift away from material wealth, industry, and productivity. Instead, the Aquarian air sign energy prioritizes collaboration and creativity over production and achievement. We’re being ushered into a period of innovation and inspiration. Progress becomes the priority over tradition.

3. Mars and Mercury in Retrograde

“The sleepy, stuck feelings many of us will experience this winter can be blamed on both Mars and Mercury retrograding as we step into the new year. It may not feel like a fresh, new start at the beginning of the year, but that’s okay! The slow start might feel like a hiccup in the moment, but honestly, this period of rest is creating space for new ways of being. Uncertainty can make us forge new and better paths forward, and that’s on air sign energy, bb.”

Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21)

On the backside of this surge of energy, Mercury will retrograde in your sign for about two weeks beginning August 25th. You’ve been setting this up all year, so IMO, two weeks of potential miscommunications or crossed wires isn’t likely to undo all your progress. “If you have any regrets from the past that resurface during the last half of 2023, this might be your chance to try again. The thing you should be most mindful of, though, is overburdening yourself. Scorpio (October 23 - November 21)

“You are swimming in uncharted waters, and it feels like you’re lost at sea. You’re not, and actually these waters have been mapped, but just not by you. It feels overwhelming in the moment, but you will quickly realize that you are actually the flight risk here, not them. Mercury’s retrogrades will be particularly cringe for you, this year, but could bring second chances or opportunities to ‘make up’ or at least release grudges. Uranus will stay in your house of relationships and intimacy all year, and is joined by Jupiter for a stint in mid-May. The Lunar Eclipse at the end of October will put an end, once and for all, to relationships that no longer serve you, strengthening the ones that do. While it may be deeply uncomfortable for you, this is actually so fortuitous, and you’ll start to see positive progression to your relationships, especially romantic, but even platonic.”

Your Beauty Resolution:

“Sorry to be cliché, but the first and only thing that comes to mind when we think of your year in beauty is a thick, dark ring of eyeliner and a dark, blood-red lip. Other 2023 Milestones to Keep in Mind

“It wouldn’t be a year-ahead horoscope if we didn’t mention Mercury the messenger and his retrogrades. While we begin the year with our planet of communication in its retrograde motion, it won’t last long! Mercury goes direct in Capricorn on January 18. We have four periods of Mercury retrograde this year, beginning on April 21 in Taurus, August 23 in Virgo, and December 13 in Sagittarius.

“On March 7, Saturn graciously moves into Pisces, bringing those cozy, introspective moments into much sharper focus and making them feel more natural. The past few years have been about churning things out, keeping your money on your mind, and grinding by any means necessary. Sitting still can feel like you’ve been put in time out, but even your boss is sick of how hard you’ve been working.

“On March 23, Pluto, the generational planet of transformation, makes its way into Aquarius. Another new era! This shift feels like a long-awaited respite, as Pluto has been B-U-S-Y dismantling and exposing power structures in Capricorn since 2008. Pluto moving into Aquarius will finally allow us to rebuild the tower, but this time with a stronger foundation and a watchful eye towards honesty. Pluto will dance between Capricorn and Aquarius for most of the year, and won’t station officially in Aquarius until 2024, where it’ll stay put until 2043. Nature is healing! Peace and justice will prevail, but still, we’re not out of the woods. Echoes of the past will continue to reverberate, likely over the course of the next few years.

“Thankfully, our planet of luck and expansion, Jupiter, will leave the determined and sometimes power-hungry sign of Aries for Taurus, a more tender taskmaster, on May 16. Where Aries attempts to win quickly and swiftly, Taurus knows that you attract more flies with honey and takes a more hands-off approach to achievement.

“In late July, Venus gets hot and heavy in a Leo retrograde pattern, encouraging us to consider what we do and don’t want, and not only when it comes to love. This will be a period of reflection about how we want to be recognized–is being adored enough? You could feel called towards some new form of creative expression. Giving and receiving attention is always a focus but the reciprocal flow of attention will be emphasized for the next few months, until Venus goes direct on September 4. It’s likely many of us will choose to overhaul the way we view and participate in relationships, in general.

“What was once taboo is now considered to be honest vulnerability. What was once considered to be law may now be an unnecessary and arbitrary rule. The ways we live, work, play, and love are changing, and now we’re playing by our own rules, independently.”
