While you’re giving thanks for your friends and family this holiday season, make sure to show yourself a little gratitude, too. Start by practicing a little self-care. Tie your hair up in a silk scrunchie, slap on a sheet mask, get cozy, and learn a new, relaxing skill: calligraphy. We tapped Amanda Reid, calligrapher and founder of Calligraphers of Color, to create a custom, beauty-inspired worksheet just for you.

Level Up Your Lettering

First time trying calligraphy? Reid provided some pro calligraphy tips to get you started.

1. Trace the Worksheet

Place a piece of blank paper over top of the worksheet below, and trace over the letters. This way, you’ll have endless uses of the worksheet and won’t need to print a new one each time.

2. Pick Your Pen

Reid recommends using a calligraphy pen or a brush marker with a flexible tip to get the biggest payoff from your lettering. You can find these at your local craft store.

3. Lighten Your Upstrokes

To get those beautiful varying line widths we all love from calligraphy, lighten your pressure every time your pen moves upward on a letter (known as an upstroke). This will create thinner lines.

4. Now Try Downstrokes

As a rule of thumb, downstrokes (when your pen or marker moves down the page when creating a letter) are thicker. To get that effect, add a bit more pressure to your tool.

Ready to give it a go? Save the worksheet below, print it out, and get to lettering.
