Our everyday makeup skills are better than ever now that we’ve mastered the no-makeup makeup look, but when it’s time to step out for dinner and drinks or a night of dancing, there’s nothing like a glamorous beat to help you go from cute to gorgeous. If you want vixen eyes with all the confidence of a dirty martini, look no further than martini makeup.

This sultry look is the latest craze to catch our attention. It has all the olive tones of an extra-dirty martini, and it makes a statement just as strong. Keep reading to get all the tips you need to create a martini makeup look for yourself.

Meet the Expert

Joslyn Spurlock is an NYC-based professional makeup artist.

What Is Martini Makeup?

While this isn’t the first beverage-themed makeup trend we couldn’t wait to try (we’re still not over latte makeup), the martini makeup look is waiting to be your next go-to night-out look. It channels the spirited energy of a dirty martini with bold smoky eyes, a luxurious hint of shimmer, and a high-shine lip.

Makeup artist Joslyn Spurlock describes martini makeup as “sultry and shimmery, with a smoky or olive twist created on the eyes. The look is [centered around] a cat-eye shape, typically diffused and blended with green, champagne, or cocktail-colored frosted shadows.”

How to Get the Martini Makeup Look

1. Begin With a Radiant Complexion

The eyes might be the star of the martini makeup trend, but no look is complete without a healthy-looking complexion. Begin with a hydrated and primed base for a smooth foundation application. For this look, we recommend a radiant finish with subtle blush for a slightly flushed appearance.

The CHARLOTTE TILBURY Beautiful Skin Foundation is a great option for a healthy-looking, luminous base.

2. Line the Eyes

The most striking features of the martini makeup look are boldly lined eyes. Joslyn recommends using “an eyeliner or eye kohl that’s easy to blend with strong pigment. Black, green, or brown is ideal.” You’ll want to use the siren eyes technique to create a thin, precise line that elongates the shape of your eyes. Be sure to line the entire bottom waterline while beginning at the outer corners of the upper lash line to create your wing.=

We love the GXVE BEAUTY Line It Up Clean 24-Hr Gel Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner in Spiderwebs. It’s long-wearing and waterproof, so you can dance the night away without racoon eyes. In addition to classic black, it also comes in deep brown, gray, and green (to name a few)—all perfect color options for martini makeup.

3. Smudge Eyeliner & Blend Shadow

Next, smudge your eyeliner and blend it into the base color for your lids, preferably an olive-toned or emerald shade. For a dramatic effect, create a V-shape on the outer corners of the eye with your shadow. The VIOLET VOSS Olive You Forever Eyeshadow Palette has a range of green shades, so you can choose the one most flattering for you.

4. Add a Pop of Shimmer

“For the pop of shimmer on the lid, you’ll want to use olive, champagne, and earth-tone shadows,” says Joslyn. We love the ACE BEAUTÉ Glow Essentials Highlighter Palette for martini makeup like this. Each shade adds a gorgeous highlight that can be used on the eyes, cheeks, and body.

5. Finish With a High-Shine Lip

The pendulum always swings back and forth from matte to shine, but for this martini makeup trend, we feel like a high-shine lip will best suit the look. After all, imagine a candlelight glimmering off of your cocktail glass—that calls for shine. The MENTED COSMETICS Lip Glosses offer full-coverage pigments in a glossy finish. Try the shade Pink About Me for fair to light skin tones, Berry Me for medium to dark skin tones, and Baby Brown for deep skin tones.

There are never any rules to makeup, so feel free to make the martini makeup look your own. Check out these IPSY-approved martini makeup looks as inspiration for your next night out.

1. Emerald Eyes Martini Makeup

More shadow, please! Makeup artist Jocelyn Biga created this look using two different shades of green. The two-toned lids are just the kind of bold that orders an extra-dirty martini. She credits the forest green shimmer shade to DANESSA MYRICKS Colorfix in Secret Garden.

2. Dirty Martini + Berry Flush

Nude lips would’ve been the expected pairing for this all-about-eyes look, but content creator Molly Jacks opted for a bold berry-toned lip and dramatic sunburned blush. To get the look yourself, try the PURLISSE BEAUTY BB Cream Blush, a gorgeous coral-berry color that flatters all skin tones.

3. Soft Glam Martini Makeup

Not one for maximalist makeup? You can still get in on the martini makeup trend with soft glam. By lightly applying olive tones to the eyes and blending out with a subtle shimmer, you can have martini eyes with a little less drama. In this look, most of the color is focused on the inner corners of the eyes, while the shadow base is a more neutral color. To really nail this look, brighten the under eyes with a brightening concealer like the LYS BEAUTY Triple Fix Full Coverage Brightening Concealer.

4. Amped Up Lashes Martini Makeup

Let your eyes do the talking with this take on martini makeup. The base of this look is kept fresh, bright, and warm, while the cool metallic eyeshadow provides a captivating contrast. But our favorite part of this look is the voluminous lashes. You’ll need a lengthening and volumizing mascara that provides just enough hold without clumping. We recommend SUGAR COSMETICS Uptown Curl Lengthening Mascara.

5. Smoky Eye Meets Martini Makeup

We love a classic black smoky eye, and Lukman The MUA effortlessly combined it with the martini makeup look. They credit the gorgeous shimmering green eyeshadow to the HUDA BEAUTY Wild Obsessions eyeshadow palette.
