When it comes to discovering the latest beauty trends, tips, and hacks, TikTok is a gold mine. It ignited a wave of viral makeup looks (from siren eyes, to face wine, to lip contouring, and more) that we’re pretty much always game to try. So when the siren lip trend (which is kind of like a play onthe super popular siren eyes trend) went viral, a deep dive was definitely in order.

If you’ve even done a little bit of scrolling through social media, you’re for sure to have noticed a huge focus on lips lately (some throwbacks like '90s brown liner, and some newer trends like cherub lips). While not all viral beauty trends work as effortlessly as they might seem, siren lips are an easy-to-recreate look that can provide a sultry smile on anyone. “I love that it’s a different way of playing with shape. We have seen a lot of different lining techniques trending with lips over the past few years and this one, I think is the most unique and different,” says makeup artist, Lindsay Kastuk. Here’s the scoop on the siren lips trend followed by an easy how-to.

Meet the Expert

Lindsay Kastuk is an NYC-based makeup artist.

What Are Siren Lips?

The word “siren” alludes to being seductive, alluring, or tempting, and the siren lip trend falls nothing short of that vibe. “The siren lip is similar to the siren eye trend. It involves using makeup to elongate and lift the lips at the outer corners to create a more dramatic look,” says Kastuk. Just like siren eyes are all about exaggerating the length and shape of the eye, siren lips are focused on doing just the same. The goal? Added drama and lips that look ready for their paparazzi closeup.

What we love even more about the siren lip trend (besides it being hot and heavy AF), is that it can flatter all lip sizes and lip shapes. “I think it works best for any lip shape as it focuses more on the outer corners of the lips. And as with any makeup trend, you can tweak it to make it work for you,” Kastuk adds.

How to Get the Siren Lip Look

Ready to recreate the look? Follow these three easy steps to create your own set of siren lips.

1. Prep Your Pout

Begin with your skincare routine for a smooth, soft canvas is key for any lip look. “I always start with exfoliating & hydrating my lips for any lip application,” says Kastuk who recommends using a moisturizing sugar lip scrub followed by a balm. “You can scrub and let the balm sit on while you do the rest of your face!“ Kastuk adds. We love HANALEI Sugar Lip Scrub because it's a super soother for dry, chapped lips.

2. Line Your Lips

“Dab off some of the excess lip balm off and then use your lip liner color of choice,” says Kastuk who recommends Charlotte Tilbury or Kjaer Weis lip pencils in a shade that flatters your skin tone. “You’re going to line your lips as you normally would and instead of connecting the inner corners you're going to drag them out and up—almost like creating a winged liner shape on your lips—so it creates a subtle lifting point at the outer corners,” Kastuk tells us. Try CHARLOTTE TILBURY Lip Cheat (it glides on buttery smooth making it perfect for sculpting and defining lips without skipping or tugging).

3. Apply Lip Color

“You can finish with more balm or a gloss or lipstick, whatever you normally wear!” Kastuk says. For a glossy finish, we love TRESLÚCE BEAUTY Lips B Like... Plumping Lip Gloss in Besame. Any glossy nude to brown lipstick or even clear gloss will do the trick. For a moody feel, go for something long-wearing and richly pigmented like F.A.R.A.H Matte Liquid Lipstick in Coco or MAC Love Me Lipstick in Bated Breath (after all, it’s ALL about upping the drama).

What we love even more about the siren lip trend is how versatile it can be. Want to tone your lips down for everyday wear? “Definitely use a liner close to your natural lip color and maybe keep the drama a bit more minimal when you’re drawing outwards. You can always amp it up a bit more when you need or want to!” says Kastuk.
