Glam Bag x Alicia Keys: Meet the August 2022 GBX Curator

The key to empowerment? Sometimes it’s all about blasting a power anthem, sticking to a self-care ritual, or grounding yourself with loving affirmations. Just ask music icon Alicia Keys, your next Glam Bag X curator. She’s inviting you to step into your power with offerings that empower you to express yourself, live authentically, and take charge of your own beauty journey.

“I curated these offerings to serve as a treat for your hair, skin, body, and most importantly, your soul,” says Alicia. “Soul care is changing the conversation of what it means to be beautiful and cultivating the vibe and the energy you want to stand in. It’s in how we approach our everyday habits: creating space for ourselves, being kind to ourselves, uplifting ourselves, and changing the intention behind our actions and how we speak to ourselves.” So throw out the beauty rulebook as Alicia lets you in on her personal journey.

Loving the Skin She’s In

From breaking up with makeup to embracing it all over again (on her own terms), Alicia is rewriting the beauty rules. “I believe that we create our own beauty standards, not our families, friends, social media, and certainly not society,” she says. “My philosophy is that we should all feel empowered to look and express ourselves how we want.”

But like many of us, Alicia didn’t always have that empowered state of mind: “Early in my career, I was doing everything to please everyone. I thought I had to be ‘perfect.’ I felt the pressure of what the industry and society was saying I needed to do and be. Over time, I’ve freed myself of those impositions. I realized that while I may have adopted them, I don’t want them. Now it’s about what I want, how I want to express myself, and my own intentions! I get to choose—and so do you! Now, I’m following that.”

The Glam Bag x Alicia Keys collection is meant to serve as your first step in finding that unconditional self-love. “Ultimately, the only true beauty standard that matters is the one you create,” says Alicia. “So whether you decide that looks like a fresh face or full-wattage glam, you get to decide what makes you feel most like you.”
